Estamos en Peru!

Adam, Carolyn, and Mike have arrived in Cuzco and the rest of the team will be arriving in Cuzco tomorrow morning. As we wait for the rest of the team to arrive, we have been acclimating to the altitude (11,000 ft) getting to know the area and picking up some local spanish phrases. We are now preparing to head up to the communities of Sanka and Araypallpa on Wednesday.

Tonight we met with Epi and Mirtha. They have been really great to speak to about the communities, both ladies have worked with EWB and the communities in the past as translators. Epi introduced us to Sylvia who is a member of the residents of Sanka in Cuzco. Sylvia informed us that the community members in Sanka are anticipating our arrival.

Epi and Mirtha have also informed us of a strike that might be taking place on Wednesday. We have a full day ahead of us tomorrow as we work out the the last details of our trip because the strike could potentially affect everything from markets to roads and bridges being closed. We need to meet with our contacts at the Ministry of Health, pick up all the food and tool supplies that we will need over the next eight days and also meet with the Residents of Sanka to talk about what we will do while in the community during the stay.

Now, we are off to listen to some live music. woo!

Mike, Carolyn and Adam
